If you ask any concierge or local in Reykjavik, Iceland for a restaurant recommendation, many will point you to The Grill Market (Grillmarkaðurinn). This popular restaurant is considered one of the hottest places to visit while in Iceland and for good reason. Their decor is chic, their bar is a hotspot for the in-crowd  and their food is really good!Set in a beautifully decorated and chic environment, the Grill Market serves up an inventive mix of Icelandic dishes accented with distinctly asian flavors. The accrued knowledge is evident in beautifully presented dishes such as mink whale sashimi with thai dipping sauce, dried fish tempura and my favorite - spinach salad with duck confit. Of paramount importance at the Grill Market is the relationship between chef and farmer, as they work closely with local farmers to source only the freshest ingredients in order to create truly delicious dishes.

The Grill Markets’ 8 course tasting menu is served family style and features a stunning array of Icelandic ingredients prepared using only fire, smoke, logs and coal. Highlights from the menu were the grilled chicken wings marinated in oyster sauce with home-made peanut butter and “popcorn”. An Icelandic filet of cod with bits of chorizo and of course their massive dessert tray, complete with melted caramel and home made ice-cream.Price Per Person: 9.400 ISK (approx $135 per person)With Wine Paring: 17.900 ISK (approx $70 per person)

Make sure to save room -- the desert course is a meal unto itself!
