Hotel am Dom: A Boutique Hotel in Salzburg's Old Town

It’s hard to imagine that you’re in an 800 year old building, as you sit comfortably in your modern and stylish room at Boutique Hotel am Dom.  This 14th century building has undergone a complete renovation,  yet has managed to preserve many of its antique characteristics. 

Slowly we began to notice the details that make this place so special. The old wooden tram to the ceiling, the vaulted ceilings in the charming breakfast room and the stone archways and pillars. Everything breathes history at Boutique Hotel am Dom, despite the stylish first impression. 

Staying at Hotel AM Dom during the Christmas season was the perfect location for us.  I couldn’t believe how close it was to the center of Salzburg and especially the fabulous Christkindlmarkt (Christmas Market) that the town of Salzburg hosts every Advent. Every time we walked to and from the hotel we were greeted with the smell of glühwein and sweet treats from the stalls of the market (think huge chocolate covered pretzels and plenty of cookies and cakes). Even without snow there was something magical about staying in the town of Salzburg. 

Although we spent most of the day exploring the town of Salzburg, we loved coming home to a comfortable bed. Our room was pretty small, yet was perfectly comfortable for what we wanted. We would go to bed listening to the bells chiming from the nearby Salzburg Cathedral and wake up to the same sounds, which only added to the authenticity of where we were. We were in an 800 year old building and it was still standing. 

The location couldn’t have been better. Walk right outside the door and you will be standing in the middle of the old town, almost directly in front of the cathedral. The Hotel am Dom is situated on a narrow cobblestone street with great boutique shops and restaurants. I might have done some damage at the small lingerie shop on the corner.
