Visiting the Schloss Proschwitz Winery in Meissen, Germany
I love wine...and I know nothing about wine. I know what type I like and I can tell you if something tastes good, but ask me to smell the nose and tell the difference between an '04 and '08 and be prepared to have a blank face staring back at you. Although I'm not overly concerned with learning the intricacies of the wine world I do love visiting wineries and tasting wine. It’s fun!
So when we were told that Germany produces amazing wine (other than Riesling) and that there happened to be a winery in a small nearby village, that happened to have a view of a castle, and happened to be in a castle, I was intrigued.

Schloss Proschwitz Winery is located in the small, yet extremely charming town of Meissen and situated on the rolling hills of Saxony right off the Elbe River. Their story is inspiring, their wines are delicious, and they’re run and operated by a Prince and Princess.
When we first arrived at the vineyard we were so impressed with the calmness and beauty of the scenery. The leaves were changing colors and despite the foggy day the Albrechtsburg Castle seemed to be shining in the distance. We sat at a small wooden table in the middle of the vineyard and started sampling some wines while learning about the royal history of the winery.
Before stoping at the actual winery we stopped at Proshwitz Castle (which looked like a scene out of Downton Abbey) for a quick tour. Currently the castle is a venue for private events and weddings.
Eventually we made our way to the winery were we checked out the production, sampled Balsamic (I'm still mad I didn't figure out a way to bring home a big bottle) and more wine at their tasting room.
