Santiago is usually just the entry point before Patagonia, but we gave it a couple of days anyway. Castillo Rojo is a converted mansion — accurately named, genuinely red — with its own distinct personality instead of the generic hotel-anywhere feel. Singular Hotel, in the Lastarria neighborhood, was where we settled once we decided the capital deserved more than a layover.
