Luxury hotel reviews, travel guides, and stories.
You can pop into Hong Kong for a day or stay a month and still find something new every time. We’ve been twice — once in a sweltering, humid summer, once in winter, when we stretched a layover on the way to Thailand into five extra days. The Airport Express drops you into Central in about 40 minutes, which is where we stayed both times.
The Four Seasons is loud in the best way. We walked into organized chaos: a wedding going on in one corner, people everywhere. Our suite had floor-to-ceiling windows over the harbor and Kowloon Bay, and the outdoor pool overlooking the water made it easy to forget we were in the middle of a major city. It’s also home to Lung King Heen, the first Chinese restaurant anywhere to earn three Michelin stars.
A block away, The Landmark Mandarin Oriental is marked with a sign so small you would walk right past it, and its rooms are some of the largest in a city famous for feeling claustrophobic. What we still talk about is the service. We mentioned to the concierge that we needed sandals before Thailand, and within the hour there was an envelope under the door — a list of shops, a marked-up map, and confirmation they had called ahead to check sizes.
