Zürich surprised us by combining mountains and city in one place. Atlantis by Giardino sits at the base of Üetliberg Mountain with views over the whole region. Its restaurant, Ecco Zürich, holds two Michelin stars but skips the stuffiness that usually comes with that — no pretension from the staff, no need to be a food expert to enjoy it.
Verbier is where we went to ski. It’s one of the Alps’ most famous resorts, and has hosted Swedish and British royalty. Nevai Hotel put us right in that scene. And in Vevey, between Lausanne and Montreux, Hotel Trois Couronnes sits on Lake Geneva with the snowcapped Alps across the water. We’ve not had a better view from a hotel room anywhere.
